Edward Estlin Cummings was born on 14th October 1894 in Cambridge, Massachusetts, US. He was an American poet, author, playwright, and painter. He wrote over 2,900 poems during his lifetime. He often used modernist free-form poetry in his writings.
He graduated from Harvard University. He ignored all the conformed laws of writings and used a very unconventional syntax and language.
He published four plays during his lifetime. HIM, Anthropos, Tom, A ballet and Santa Claus: A Morality. He always addressed his poems by writing his name in lower case and without periods. Some of his most famous works are - Tulips and Chimneys, The Enormous Room, is 5, No Thanks, Collected Poems, Fairy Tales.
He received Bollingen Prize, Guggenheim Fellowship for Creative Arts, US, and Canada. He died on 3rd September 1962 in The Memorial Hospital at North Conway, N.H.
