It is believed that on this holy day of Narali Poornima, worshipping the God of Sea would bring the fishermen good luck and keep them safe at sea to protect them from accidents for unfortunate events. On this occasion, the Brahmins in the Indian state of Maharashtra perform several rituals, like the Shravani Upakarma and also observe fasting. They consume Nariyal or the coconut during this Phalahar fasting.
