Upanayana is one of the famous rituals which is performed during this auspicious day. This festival marks the end of the monsoon season and is celebrated on a full moon day, generally in the month of July or August. The devotees also offer prayers to the sea for keeping the waters calm. No fishing is done, nor fish is consumed during this day. This day is also marked by celebrating Raksha Bandhan, during which the sisters tie a Raakhi on the wrist of their brothers.
