History of Ram Navami
According to legends, it is told that King Dashratha was not able to conceive a child with any of his wives. He had three wives named Kausalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra. It made him sad as he wanted a boy who could rule Ayodhya after him. So, he performed a Putra Kamesti Yagna so that his queens could bear his child. The performance of Yagna was advised by Rishi Vashishth. After the performance of the yagna, queens were offered kheer, which was blessed by Yajna, Lord of Yagna. Soon after the performance of the yagna, all three queens conceived a child. Queen Kausalya gave birth on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri to Lord Ram. Sumitra gave birth to the twins named Laxman and Shatrughna. Kaikeyi gave birth to Bharata.
Ram went to exile for 14 years because of King Dashrath's promise to her wife, Kaikeyi. Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years and became its beloved ruler.
