Felice Leonardo Buscaglia, also known by Leo Buscaglia or "Dr Love", was an American author and motivational speaker. He was also a professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of Southern California.
Born in Los Angeles, California, on March 31, 1924, Leonardo Buscaglia belonged to a family of Italian immigrants. Leo spent his childhood in Aosta, Italy. He shifted to the United States of America after that. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School.
Buscaglia also served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War. After his retirement as a professor, he was named Professor at Large, an important designation to hold at that time. It's believed that a student's suicide moved him during his tenure as a professor. It was after this incident that he began contemplating human connections and the meaning of life. He then began a noncredit class called "Love 1A".
Buscaglia was extremely passionate about public speaking and was often seen speaking at fundraiser events. His books also became bestsellers because of the way they were written.
