Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, commonly known as Michelangelo, was born on 6th March 1475 in the Republic of Florence, Tuscany, Italy. He was also called II Divino. He was a famous Italian sculptor, architect, painter, and poet. Many of his paintings and sculptures are counted as some of the most famous works in existence. His two most famous works are Pietà and David. He was the first Western artist whose biography was written while he was still alive.
He attended the Platonic Academy founded by Medici. Madonna of the Steps is one of his most famous marble works. His most famous work is the ceiling frescoes of the Sistine Chapel.
He was an active participant in the High Renaissance. Michelangelo was highly influenced by Donatella, Lorenzo de' Medici, Lorenzo Ghiberti. He died on 18th February 1564 in Rome, Italy.
