Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brede et de Montesquieu was born on 18th January 1689 in France. He proposed the idea of separation of powers which is adopted by several constitutions in the world. He formed the word 'despotism' in the political sphere.
He attended the Catholic College of Juilly, and in 1714, he became a member of the Bordeaux Parliament. He married Jeanne de Lartigue, who was a Protestant. Montesquieu stopped working on laws and focused on writing. In 1721, he published Persian Letters which became a huge success. He also published Considerations on the Causes of the Greatness of Romans and their Decline in 1734. The Catholic Church banned The Spirit and many other works of Montesquieu.
He became a Freemason and a member of the Royal Society. He proposed doctrines of the political influence of climate. The Essay on Taste was his last work. He died on 10th February 1755 in Paris, France.
