Down syndrome is a condition in which a person has an extra chromosome. Within the frame, chromosomes are small "packages" of genes. Because it grows during pregnancy and after birth, they determine how a toddler frames paperwork and abilities. A toddler is born with 46 chromosomes on average. Down syndrome babies have an extra copy of one of these chromosomes, chromosome 21. The term 'trisomy' refers to a clinical period in which a chromosome is reproduced again. Trisomy 21 is another name for Down syndrome. This increased reproduction alters the way a toddler's body and mind develop, which can result in both intellectual and physical challenges for the child.
Despite the fact that people with Down syndrome may act and look alike, each individual has unique abilities. People with Down syndrome frequently have an IQ (intelligence level) in the mild-to-moderate range and are slower to speak than other children.
The following are some common Down Syndrome bodily abilities:
- Flattening of the face, particularly the bridge of the nose
- Almond-shaped eyes with a slant to them
- A slender neck
- Ears that are small
- A tongue that has a proclivity for sticking out of the mouth
- Tiny white spots on the eye's iris (coloured part).
- Fingers and toes are small.
- A single unbroken line runs across the palm of the hand (palmar crease)
- Small pinky arms that curve towards the thumb on occasion
- Muscle atrophy or loose joints
- As children and adults, their peaks are shorter.
Every year on March 21, World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed. The day has been set aside to raise awareness about Down syndrome. In 2012, the day was first formally established with the help of the United Nations. The date March 21 was chosen as the focus of the investigation because it represents the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the twenty-first chromosome, which causes Down syndrome.
History of World Down Syndrome Day
On March 21, 2012, the United Nations declared the first World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). This date was chosen to reflect the uniqueness of the trisomy of the twenty-first chromosome, which causes Down syndrome.
Down Syndrome International (DSi), a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness about the condition, began organizing sports for the current year in 2006.
From 2006 to 2010, the Down Syndrome Association Singapore released and hosted the WSDS website on behalf of DSi to report on global sports organized around Down Syndrome awareness.
Later, the Brazilian Federation of Down Syndrome Associations collaborated with the DSi and its contributors to launch a campaign to raise awareness about the situation around the world. On November 10, 2011, during the plenary assembly of the Third Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the decision to release the identical was reached by consensus. It became co-sponsored by seventy-eight United Nations Member States. DSi also launched a global petition to have World Down Syndrome Day recognized by the United Nations.
The United Nations General Assembly declared March 21 as World Down Syndrome Day on December 19, 2011.
