Introduction of World Meteorological Day
Every year since 1961, 23rd March has been celebrated throughout the nation as a World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) day to celebrate the appearance into force in 1950 of the WMO Convention, which remade the former International Meteorological Organisation into the Inter-Governmental World Meteorological Organisation. Each year, the WMO selects a particular theme to concentrate the awareness of the world on a significant global problem worrying atmospheric science and the services provided by the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services and the activities of the WMO. International Meteorological Organisation (IMO) was organized in 1873 to facilitate alliance amongst meteorological services of the world for the timely and free exchange of meteorological information in the internationally accepted codes. With time, the importance of meteorology grew manifold, and the International Meteorological Organisation was transformed into an inter-governmental official body called the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) on 23rd March 1950, by WMO convention. It is a specialized agency of the UN system. To remember this day, every year since 1961, this day is celebrated as WMO day by the Meteorological community all over the world with emphasis on a theme every year. Climate and weather, for sure, are the major concern of the WMO. WMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations through which the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services of the world plan to coordinate the provision of weather, climate and related environmental services on a regional and global basis. The major role of WMO is to coordinate and facilitate worldwide cooperation in exchange of hydrological, meteorological, and other geophysical observations for the benefit of human activities, the welfare of the society, economic development of nations and safety of natural environment.
WMO is a specialized agency of the United Nations. The WMO has classified its working into five major elements to carry out its wide-ranging international responsibilities in the most effective manner.
History of World Meteorological Day
The World Meteorological Day was established by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO). WMO is an intergovernmental organization organized for meteorology and has a membership of 191 worldwide Member States as well as Territories. It was first established and arose from the "International Meteorological Organisation" founded by the International Meteorological Congress in Vienna, Austria, in 1873. Whereas, World Meteorological Organisation was initially established on 23rd March in the year 1950 and had agreed with the specialized meteorology agency of the United Nations to govern the weather and climate from one place as well as perform functional hydrology including all the relevant geophysical sciences. The department of the World Meteorological Organisation is in Geneva, Switzerland, which is a member of the Development Group, United Nations. The World Meteorological Organisation was founded as a specialized agency in 1951 for meteorology to maintain current facts about the Earth'sEarth's atmosphere behaviour, atmospheric intercourses with the oceans, occurring in climate and distribution of the water resources. This organization includes around 191 member states and territories membership, the convention of which was held on 11th October in 1947 and authorized in the year 1950.
The World Meteorological Congress deduces the agreements of the World Meteorological Organisation in the conference after every four years. This action is carried out in the presence of every member country of WMO. The configuration of the system is Permanent Representative comes to be a director at National Meteorological or Hydrometeorological Service, Executive Council to pertain the strategies by Congress decisions, 6 regional federations to deal with the regional concerns, 8 technical commissions to rectify technical recommendations, Secretary-General to oversee the secretariat and organize the WMO activities with the help of formal staffs.

Interesting Facts on Meteorology
- The words "meteor" and "meteorological" arrive from a Greek word implying "raised" or "lofty".
- It showcases the important assistance of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services to the security and wellbeing of civilization and is celebrated with activities around the world.
- Hydrometeorology is the branch of meteorology that agrees with the hydrologic cycle, the water budget, and the rainfall statistics of storms. A hydrometeorological prepares and problems predictions of amassing (quantitative) precipitation, heavy rain, heavy snow and highlights areas with the ability for flash flooding.
- Meteorology applications in renewable energy include basic research, "exploration," and likely mapping of wind power and solar radiation for wind and solar energy.
- Every year the World Meteorological Day is commemorated on 23rd March to bring out the importance of people's role and their behaviour in protecting the Earth'sEarth's atmosphere.
- Crucial movement of heat, matter, or velocity on time scales of less than a day are affected by turbulent motions. Boundary layer meteorology includes the examination of all types of surface-atmosphere boundary, which includes, ocean, lake, urban land and non-urban land, for the study of meteorology.
- The timeliest wind speed ever listed was 301mph in Oklahoma City, USA, in 1999. Thales of Miletus, a Greek philosopher over 200 years before Aristotle, thought that weather resulted in the movement of stars and planets.
- The early treatise on meteorology was written by Aristotle in 340 BC. Vice-Admiral Robert FitzRoy started up the initial daily weather forecast in the UK in 1861.
- Meteorological phenomena are noticeable weather events that are clarified by the science of meteorology. Meteorological phenomena are interpreted and quantified by the variables of Earth's atmosphere: air pressure, temperature, water vapour, mass flow, and the variations and interactions of these variables, and how they change over the moment
- Many people admire why the study of the atmosphere is called meteorology. The word comes from the ancient Greeks. In about 340 BCE. The Greek philosopher Aristotle inscribed a book called Meteorologica, which encompassed all that was known at the time about weather and environment. Aristotle got the headline of his book from the Greek word "meteor," which meant "a thing high up" and pertained to anything examined in the atmosphere. That phrase stuck through the centuries, so professionals in the atmosphere became known as meteorologists.
