I watched the moon landing as a boy, and I thought that was the most exciting thing ever, going into space, orbiting Earth and exploring other planets. That looked fantastic.

I was a frustrated astronaut all my life. I grew up at a time when space seemed to have no boundaries, and lots of us presumed humans would be living on the moon and landing on Mars.

We all are designed to survive rather than to be happy.

I think because I can be sad, and I can be lonely, my gift would be trying to help other people feel less lonely and less sad. Because that's what I understand.

You can only feel creative when there is joy. When there is a sense of passion.

You can suffer the pain of change or suffer remaining the way you are.

Remember, one just man causes the Devil greater affliction than a million blind believers.

It is also the fate of leadership to be misunderstood. For historians, academics, writers and journalists to reflect great lives according to their own subjective canon.

I felt it would to add a great deal to my legend for eccentricity.

My belief, through my experiences, is that the world in which we live is but an illusionary world, a world that one day we will leave behind as we travel on toward our destiny and toward reality.

Fortunately, many people also enjoy a stand-alone as a sample of something new, like trying the special at a favourite restaurant one night instead of going for the usual.

In the church we have to deliberately let ourselves be transparent and accountable to others. We're a family.
