Music doesn't solve your problems..but allows you to dance all over them

The Meatbats are a throwback band.

For live you need a microphone for the snare and the high hat, the kick drum, a nice stereo overhead and one for the toms - you can get away with using four mikes.

I just try to approach and serve the music in the way that I think is right for the band I'm in at the time.

I just love to play and I get a chance to play with other musicians and I jump on it.

We always feel pretty creative as far as writing songs. We write them together; we just get in a room, or on occasion in Flea's garage. We just sort of improvise, like jazz musicians.

In some of the L.A. clubs, people can act too cool to get into your music. That can get to be a bit much.

Jazz can be so serious, no sense of humor.

I'm a little more of a lead instrument in the Meatbats.

I feel like in order to challenge yourself you have to get out of and do things that feel wrong at first and find new things. It's important to look for those things.

Flea and Anthony are into funk, like old school Meters and stuff like that.

The biggest criminals that I have met in life are working for the government. They make mass murderers look like amateurs.

There is never enough time for fun.

I come from great stock. I didn't come from money. My parents both worked really hard to keep food on the table and give my sister and me opportunities to play sports and see what we were good at.

Growing up, I didn't know my parents were famous. I just thought they knew everybody. Everyone was always saying, 'Hi, Billy,' 'Hi, Christie.' I thought they were just popular.

Since I was a child I've loved going to the opera, theatre and ballet.

I love working on scripts. I love coming up with ideas about what people would dress like or talk like. I love all that.

I want to do one thing, and do it well.

I had a good theater career for years. I played Hamlet when I was 22, and I've played some really great roles.

If someone wants to give me the lead in anyone of those films, and deal with those other complications, terrific, Im ready for them.
